Looking for job 2 or 3 times a year is stressful and is not for everybody. I like to work on long contracts, but unfortunately this is not always the case. By working on many contracts you gain invaluable professional experience and learn to deal with various problems and people. These are very important skills especially for an IT specialist.

In general the permanent employees like their "job security" and don't like changing jobs every now and then. My father for example worked in the same company for 32 years. You just set your priorities.

Its not always about priorities
Some people would love to stay in a job for 32 years but never get the chance as they keep being made redundant from uncaring employers.

Yes, it would be nice if you could choose your contracts and especially the length of them.
Going to find a job every few months is certainly not ideal, but there is little choice if your contracts are only 3 or 4 months long.
